Evolve Competition Team Tryouts Results

Over the weekend, Evolve MMA held tryouts for the Evolve Competition Teams, the official amateur fight teams for Asia’s top martial arts organization. As we anticipated, the tryouts were well attended and highly competitive. All of the Evolve students that tried out showed tremendous skill, courage, and heart.

Evolve Fight Team’s Irshaad Sayed Wins EFC Debut!

The Evolve Fight Team’s Irshaad Sayed won his Extreme Fight Championship debut last night via rear naked choke in the 1^st round. The win improves Irshaad’s professional MMA record to 7-2. Irshaad is a Muay Thai World Champion, but he has been working hard over the past year with Evolve MMA’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champions. This hard work was put on full display as Irshaad secured a takedown before transitioning to the beautiful rear naked choke submission.

Congratulations to Irshaad from the entire Evolve Family! We are excited to see your continued success and evolution as a world class mixed martial artist.

Technique of the Week: Muay Thai Counterattack

ONE FC: Rise of Heroes Trailer

In just a little over a month, ONE FC will make its much anticipated return to Manila, Philippines. Although the official fight card has not yet been released, fans can expect another epic night of world class mixed martial arts among some of the world’s very best fighters.

In the main event of the evening, ONE FC Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano Fernandes will defend his title against ONE FC Bantamweight Grand Prix Champion Masakatsu Ueda. This is a fight that you definitely don’t want to miss!

Watch the 2014 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup!

The 2014 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup was recently held in Los Angeles, California on March 15^th and 16^th. The event is the biggest and most important team wrestling competition in the entire world featuring the very best wrestlers from all of the world’s wrestling powerhouses. The level of wrestling on display is second to none, and the stakes are national pride. It is truly the best of the best in the world of wrestling.

This year fans got to watch the Iranian wrestling team make World Cup history by winning their third straight title. The Iranian team blew threw the competition en route to a final victory against an extremely talented Russian team. The United States claimed the bronze medal after falling to the Iranians in a closely contested 5-3 loss.

Fight Night Natal: Henderson vs. Shogun 2

In 2011, Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua fought in what is widely considered to be one of the greatest fights in UFC history. It was an absolute war in which both fighters showed the heart and determination of true warriors. After 5 back and forth rounds, Henderson was declared the winner via a narrow decision.

Now nearly 3 years later, we will finally get to witness the epic rematch of Dan Henderson and Shogun Rua. The event is set to go down this weekend on March 23^rdin Natal, Brazil. Let’s hope for another MMA classic! In the meantime, check out the awesome preview for the event below.

Metamoris 3 Preview: Cornelius vs. Magalhaes

Metamoris is one of the most innovative and entertaining Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitions in the entire world, and on March 29^thit returns for its third installment. The event follows a very unique set of competition rules. Although the game is BJJ, Metamoris has done away with the traditional gis and eliminated the point scoring system. All matches are a single 20 minute round, and the only criteria for victory is submission. There are no decisions. As you might expect, this makes for very entertaining fights with the competitors attacking aggressively for submissions.

In one of the most anticipated match ups of Metamoris 3, rising BJJ star Keenan Cornelius will test his progress against No Gi World Champion Vinny Magalhaes. UFC 172 Preview: Jones vs. Teixeira

Last weekend at UFC 171 we witnessed the post-GSP realignment of the UFC welterweight division. Next up is UFC 172, where we will move on to the light heavyweight division. The main event of the evening features UFC Light Heavyweight World Champion Jon Jones against number one contender Glover Teixeira. Jon Jones is the obvious favorite, but Glover Teixeira is a serious threat with one punch KO power. Also on the card is the light heavyweight battle between Phil Davis and Anthony Johnson.

The event is set to go down on April 26 in Baltimore, Maryland. Check out the first preview for UFC 172 below.

Evolve Fight Team’s Herbert Burns Wins Again!

The Evolve Fight Team’s Herbert Burns stepped back into the ONE FC cage over the weekend at ONE FC: War of Nations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Despite only having two professional fights in his career, Herbert showed veteran poise in a dominant win over 60 fight MMA veteran Harris Sarmiento. Herbert pushed the pace from the opening bell, overwhelming Sarmiento with his much improved striking and world class ground game. The win moves Herbert to a perfect 3-0 in his professional MMA career.

Evolve Competition Team to Expand Its Program!

Evolve Mixed Martial Arts is excited to announce the latest expansion in the Evolve Competition Team program, the official amateur fight team for Asia’s top martial arts organization. After a very successful year in 2013, we are now looking to take our competition teams to the next level in 2014. It is our mission to continue building martial arts world champions across every discipline, and we believe that the Evolve Competition Team is the first step in that journey.

As part of this mission, we are now creating the Evolve Warrior Team. Although it will fall under the same umbrella as the greater Evolve Competition Team program, members of the Evolve Warrior Team will be held to a much higher standard. For those that are able to maintain our standards, unique privileges will be extended.

The Evolve Warrior Team is not for the casual martial artist. We are looking for serious martial artists with a burning passion to compete and succeed. For those who are invited to join one of our Warrior Team programs, we expect discipline, focus, intensity, and a champion’s work ethic. The Evolve Warrior Team will provide team members with every opportunity for success on the highest levels of competition. In return, we expect a high level of commitment to training from our team members.

The requirements to be a part of the Evolve Warrior Team are strict, but for those with the discipline to meet them the benefits will be great. As part of our new and improved Evolve Competition Team program we are now offering very special privileges for the Evolve Warrior Team members. These privileges are contingent upon fulfillment of the Evolve Warrior Team requirements.

Requirements for Evolve Warrior Team:

• Attend Evolve Competition Team training sessions every weekend

• Attend a minimum of 6 hours of regular classes per week

• Compete in 3-4 amateur competitions per year

If you are a current member of an Evolve Competition Team and wish to join the Evolve Warrior Team program please speak to your head coach about how you can get started.

The next Evolve Competition Team Tryouts will be held on March 29^th and 30^th at Evolve’s Far East Square location. The tryouts are open to all Evolve MMA members. We expect attendance at the tryouts to be high, and the selections for the team will be very competitive. Please come prepared to work hard. We want to see your best!

UFC President Dana White initially announced that a bout between Gustafsson and Antônio Rogério Nogueira would be headlining the event.However, just 5 days after the fight was announced news came that Nogueira had to withdraw from the bout due to an injury.Later, reports came that said that Nogueira had never agreed to take the fight against Gustafsson at all.

Ross Pearson was expected to face Melvin Guillard in a rematch at the event. However, Pearson pulled out of the bout citing a knee injury and was replaced by Michael Johnson.

Brad Pickett was expected to make his Flyweight debut against Ian McCall on this card. However, on February 13, it was announced that McCall had pulled out of the bout and was replaced by promotional newcomer Neil Seery.

A bout between Roland Delorme and Davey Grant was cancelled after the weigh ins the day before the event due to Grant suffering a torn meniscus.

Countdown to UFC 171: Condit vs. Woodley

With the greatest welterweight in UFC history, Georges St-Pierre, officially retired from MMA, the UFC welterweight title is now up for grabs. GSP has ruled over the division for the past six years, but on March 15^th at UFC 171 a new king will be crowned. While Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler will go to war for the vacant welterweight title, Carlos Condit and Tyrone Woodley will square off in a number one contender eliminator fight. These are the two biggest fights for the future of the post GSP welterweight division. Not only will we see the crowning of a new champ, but we will also find out who will be the first challenger. All four of these guys have the skills to be a UFC champion, and it will be very interesting to see who rises to the top at UFC 171.
