The Evolve Fight Team’s Jake Butler Returns to Action at ONE FC: WAR OF DRAGONS

The Evolve Fight Team’s Jake Butler will return to the ONE FC cage on July 11, 2014. Fighting in the light heavyweight division, Jake will be facing Egyptian Top Team’s Mohamed Ali at ONE FC: War of Dragons. 

An NCAA Division 1 wrestler, Jake has over 20 years of wrestling experience.  He has competed in many prestigious wrestling tournaments such as the NCAA Division 1 National Wrestling Championship, the Olympic Qualifiers, and the US Open. One of the top light heavyweights in the division, Jake is considered to be one of the most decorated wrestlers competing in ONE FC. While training at Evolve MMA, he has worked hard to round out his mixed martial arts game, training relentlessly with the renowned Evolve Muay Thai, BJJ, and MMA World Champions.

Rich Franklin Teaches Us How to Lose

Rich “Ace” Franklin is a true mixed martial arts legend and the former UFC Middleweight World Champion. Over the years, he has become a familiar face at Evolve MMA, holding two training camps with the Evolve Fight Team and its World Champion instructors.  Recently, Rich was introduced as the new Vice President of ONE FC.

Growing up, Franklin had dreams of playing American football in college, but ultimately decided to continue with his karate practice. Eventually, he moved on to submission fighting, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing, and ultimately into the MMA legend that we know him as today.

What most people don’t know about Rich Franklin, is that before becoming a professional MMA fighter, he was a high school mathematics teacher. He currently works with children through the Keep It In The Ring Foundation, an after school martial arts and life skills program that focuses on character building and nonviolence for the youth.

In this recent TEDxUChicago speech, Franklin teaches the audience the importance of dealing with defeat and moving forward. After his crushing loss via TKO to Anderson Silva at UFC 77, Franklin felt hopeless. It was during this time that he discovered the meaning of being an “effective loser” and how to rise from failure -  a significant lesson that he had to learn the hard way.  By having this mindset, Franklin was able to successfully redeem himself and bounce back with a TKO win over Travis Lutter at UFC 88.

Losing is something that we all must deal with at some point in our lives. However, it is the way that we react to defeat that makes all the difference. Without defeat, we may never learn from our mistakes, causing us to remain stagnant and unable to adapt to change. 

By overcoming defeat, we open ourselves up to new experiences, which allow us to prepare wisely for the future. We start to realize the mistakes we have done in the past, and it is up to us to prevent them from happening again. Rich Franklin’s experience is proof that losing should never be a hindrance; it is a chance to harness your warrior spirit and learn from your mistakes.

Evolve MMA Looking to Expand Community Outreach Program!

At Evolve MMA, we believe that the potential for greatness is inside everyone.  It does not matter if you have faced hardships in the past, there is always a chance to change the future. The children and less fortunate, who come from organizations such as Boys’ Town Home, Singapore Children’s Society, MINDS and the Children’s Cancer Foundation, are given the opportunity to learn martial arts from members of the Evolve World Champion Instructor Team.  The World Champion instructors of Evolve MMA serve as inspirational mentors for the children, imparting on them the valuable life lessons of martial arts. Through the practice of martial arts, we believe that people are given the platform to unleash their human potential and achieve greatness within.

The Evolve Fight Team’s Irshaad Sayed Wins Again!

The Evolve Fight Team’s Irshaad Sayed notched his second consecutive victory via submission on Friday.  The win was also Irshaad’s second straight for EFC, South Africa’s largest MMA event.  Although Irshaad comes from primarily a striking background, his recent work with the World Champions at Evolve MMA has begun to pay off.  Irshaad is now beginning to show all the skills of a complete mixed martial artist.

Evolve Student of the Month: Nobuhiko Takatsu

For the month of May 2014, we are very excited to announce Nobuhiko Takatsu as the Student of the Month.  Nobuhiko is one of Evolve MMA’s most talented and committed BJJ students.  He recently received the highest degree of honor and recognition from the Evolve BJJ Instructor Team when he was awarded the first ever black belt in the history of the Evolve Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program.  Although Nobuhiko will certainly not be the last to earn such an honor, he will always be the first and a shining example to all students of what can be accomplished through hard work and dedication.  Nobuhiko is an excellent role model for all students at Evolve MMA, and we are very honored to have him as part of the Evolve Family.
